About Course

The Old Testament Survey is a foundational course designed to help students understand the message, structure, and theological significance of the Old Testament. Rather than studying each book in isolation, this course traces the grand story of God’s redemptive plan from Creation to Christ, showing how every section of the Old Testament contributes to God’s unfolding purposes in history.

Throughout this course, students will explore the historical background, major events, key themes, important covenants, wisdom literature, prophetic messages, and the hope of the coming Messiah. They will discover how the Law, Historical Books, Wisdom Literature, and Prophets fit together as one unified narrative that ultimately points to Jesus Christ.

Special attention is given to understanding God’s character, His covenant faithfulness, His holiness, His dealings with Israel, and His plan to redeem the nations. The course also highlights the relevance of the Old Testament for Christian faith and ministry today, helping students move beyond simply knowing biblical facts to understanding the theological message of Scripture.

By the end of this course, students will have a clear overview of the Old Testament, understand the relationship between its books, recognize its major theological themes, and confidently explain how the Old Testament prepares for and finds its fulfillment in Jesus Christ.

Dear Student, Welcome to the Old Testament Survey: From Creation to Christ. It is a joy to have you join this journey through one of the most remarkable portions of God's Word. The Old Testament is far more than a collection of ancient books or historical accounts. It is the foundation upon which the New Testament stands and the beginning of God's unfolding plan of redemption. Every page reveals God's character, His covenant faithfulness, His dealings with His people, and His promise of a coming Savior. Many Christians find the Old Testament difficult to understand because of its historical events, laws, poetry, and prophetic writings. However, when viewed as one unified story, these books come together beautifully to reveal God's redemptive plan that culminates in Jesus Christ. Throughout this course, we will trace the biblical story from Creation to Christ. Along the way, we will study the Law, Historical Books, Wisdom Literature, and the Prophets, while discovering the major theological themes that connect them. We will also examine God's covenants, the history of Israel, the role of the Temple and sacrifices, the message of the prophets, and the hope of the coming Messiah. My prayer is that this course will do more than increase your biblical knowledge. I hope it will deepen your love for God, strengthen your confidence in Scripture, enrich your understanding of Jesus Christ, and equip you for faithful Christian living and ministry. As you work through each lesson, I encourage you to keep your Bible open, take notes, complete the quizzes and assignments, and prayerfully reflect on what you learn.
